Kelly Newton

Previously qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant, Kelly has since spent over 13 years working within in-house pensions management roles. Her career in pensions began at Next Plc in 2011, working within their in-house pensions department. It’s here she managed their administration team for defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pension schemes, successfully implementing their new DC section, improving financial reporting and redesigning internal controls. She also managed projects including the migration of pensions administration software and leading on a buy-in project (working closely with the trustee, providing scheme secretarial services and managing relationships with advisors).

In 2020, Kelly joined Samworth Brothers Limited as their Group Pensions Manager, where she managed all aspects of the group’s pension provision. Working closely with the trustee and sponsor, she was appointed as Employed Nominated Director in 2022. Within the DB scheme, she managed projects including transition of third-party administration and actuarial to a new provider, establishing a Benefits and administration committee, an ETV exercise and removal of salary underpin. Working with the DC scheme trustee, Kelly managed a project to wind-up the scheme and implemented a new Master Trust, including a bulk transfer of members and assets, and established an independent governance committee.
