Background

John has been involved with our business since 2004 and became Chairman on Vidett’s creation in 2023.

John has nearly 40 years’ experience as a pensions actuary, having started his pensions career in 1980, before qualifying as an actuary in 1985. In 1993 he was one of the founders of BGJ & Co Limited (BGJ), an actuarial consulting business. BGJ limited merged with Punter Southall Limited in 2002, where John was chief executive officer until 2018. Following the acquisition of Punter Southall Limited by Xafinity in 2018, John became XPS Pensions Group’s Senior Actuary. He was scheme actuary for pension schemes up to £5bn in size, holding some of these appointments for over 35 years, as well as having several corporate appointments.

Throughout his career, John has advised employers and trustees on all matters relating to pension schemes, including design, scheme funding and investment strategy. He has provided expert reports on actuarial advice, pensions administration and the mis-selling of personal pensions, as well as giving evidence in the High Court and at the Actuarial Disciplinary Tribunal. John was also an investigation actuary for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ disciplinary board for over 20 years – in addition, he is a trained mediator.

Outside of work, John’s main focus has always been his family – and music and movies!
