Beginning his pensions career in 1998 with HR Trustees, Simon spent ten years working with independent trustee firms, managing service providers, team members and relationships with key stakeholders including The Pensions Regulator and Pension Protection Fund. In 2008, he moved in-house with Veolia to lead on governance and various projects; later becoming the Trustee Services Manager responsible for service delivery to the trustee board comprising several complex legacy defined benefit (DB) and ongoing defined contribution (DC) schemes – a role that saw Simon managing multiple stakeholders and other HR benefits such as eye care and life assurance.
Simon joined the National Grid in 2015 as Pensions Technical Manager and later became a member of its UK pensions delivery leadership team, working closely with the business and the Trustees. It’s here he was responsible for delivering administration services, communications, change projects, systems and governance support to their Gas DB pension scheme (one of the UK’s largest at the time). where under his leadership, the team delivered a successful bulk and flexible retirement options project, various buy ins and an efficiency modernisation project. He was also responsible for the in-house member service delivery to National Grid’s trust-based DC arrangement.
A former chair of the Pensions UK Thames Valley Committee and volunteer adviser for the Pensions Ombudsman, Simon now spends his spare time jogging and playing tennis. He also has a pair of energetic twins that keep him busy the rest of the time!
