Nicola is a qualified actuary, with more than 30 years’ industry experience serving a wide range of trustee and corporate clients.

Background

Nicola has been with us since 2022, where she is involved with a portfolio of pension schemes, ranging in size from £1m to £1bn, currently acting as lead trustee on 9 of these. She also has operational responsibilities for people, for trusteeship and she leads on business development for Scotland.

Working for almost 25 years as a corporate and scheme actuary, with Aon, PwC and XPS, Nicola has plentiful experience working with different employers and trustee boards in different capacities. From setting up new pension schemes to winding them down, dealing with surpluses and deficits and pretty much everything in between, Nicola has dealt with pension schemes associated with employers from multiple industries and of all sizes. Her ability to find pragmatic solutions to complex issues has been recognised through positions on specialist groups including GMP equalisation, end game strategies and defined contribution (DC).

Whilst recognising technical and specialist experience is important, Nicola has always focused equally on building strong relationships, believing the best outcomes are achieved through collaboration. These are skills she brings through to her role as a professional trustee.

When not working, Nicola spends a lot of time walking her golden retriever on the nearby hills and enjoys both yoga and Tai Chi. She has recently been trying to improve her piano skills… with mixed success!
