Background

Duncan joined us in 2019 as a professional trustee, where he combines his investment background with his passion for solving challenges and helping people. On boards, he does this by focusing on the things that really matter and that will change outcomes for members and sponsors. Some of the tools he likes to use are translating complexity into simple explanations, improving governance and driving better outcomes through innovation, efficiency and pragmatism.

Before joining us, Duncan spent 14 years in senior investment consultancy positions at Willis Towers Watson, where he built a wealth of experience as lead adviser to a number of large institutional investors, advising defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pension scheme trustees, companies, multinationals and charities. He also headed up a global team of consultants focused on banks, investment operational efficiency and risk.

Duncan has worked with clients and schemes ranging in size from £4m to £20+bn. As a trustee, he has put in place the first alternative capital deal, taken a number of schemes through to buyout and put in place alternative funding arrangements with sponsors.

Outside of work, Duncan can be found spending time with his young family or training for endurance sports, particularly long-distance triathlons.
